Next Metal Gear !

So, the Konami website has been updated with the following image:

This would seem to hint at a new Metal Gear game, and what's more the colour scheme and a the power button would seem to hint that this is heading to the 360 (although, for my sake I hope not - at least not exclusively, as I have no wish to buy a 360 just to play Metal Gear). It could possibly just mean the much rumoured MGS4 conversion is headed to the 360, but then again the "next" in the text would seem to suggest otherwise. Also the "i" would seem to hint that it is either heading to the Wii or possibly ipod... Hell, I don't have a clue.

Presuming that a Metal Gear game is heading to the 360, the incredibly prompt strip from Dueling Analogs made me laugh...

I really don't get why people assume this means a 360 version. The power symbol is universal, and green is also the normal 'on' colour - so if you're going to do a power symbol, that would seem the typical way to portray it. Seems like a massive leap of logic - "the 360 uses green, and it has a power button, so that must be it"! Weird.

But yeah, it's a good opportunity for more RRoD jokes I suppose. Percentage fail rates among people I know with 360s is still *way* lower than the hype suggests, but it's always good for a laugh.

I know 4 people who own 360's, of which 2 have suffered with RROD... But then again, I'm sure that matters are much improved with the latest versions though.

I know what you mean about the power symbol. Maybe it's just optamistic Xbox fanboys and pessamistic PS3 fanboys?

I know of 3 RRoDs out of 20 or so people I know, and all were launch units. Anything from August 2007 onwards is much less problematic - current stats are still sub-10%, still higher than usual but not as bad as the 30% for launch units (and seems to be increasing as they age). I don't know anyone with a Falcon board who's had it fail yet, even though it's known to happen in some cases.

Sometimes it pays not to be an early adopter :) The PS2 had the same kind of reliability problems with early units IIRC, although perhaps not quite on quite as large a scale and without such a recognisable icon to put on it.
