Okay, haven’t blogged for a log time, but I thought I’d take a couple of minutes to quickly joy some micro reviews for the films I have seen since I last blogged proper. This has been many, namely due to holidays and also several trips to London for work. Also, due to time constraints, no photos/posters included with this post.
Anyway, here goes:
Origin: Spirits of the PastWell animated, but ultimately unremarkable anime.
5/10Beyond the Valley of the Dolls
Excellent Russ Meyer 60’s romp.
8/10Faster Pussycat Kill Kill
Not as good as I’d hoped – certainly no “Dolls”
5/10Southland Tales
A bit of a mess really
4/10
Drag me to Hell
Excellent return for form by Raimi, only a predictable and slightly disappointing ending spoiling this.
8/10
Star Trek
Best Trek since Khan. Lets just hope that this is reboot continues in the same fashion.
8/10TwilightSurprisingly entertaining “girlie” vampire adaptation.
7.5/10UPThe best film of the year so far, also my favourite Pixar film to date. Made me cry TWICE within the first 15 minutes and this is a damn animated film! Need I say more. Dug, the dog is also excellent. Pixar, I bow before thee.
9.5/10
Valerie and Her Week of Wonders
Utter drivel. Tries surreal, but really little more then drivel.
2/10
The Hangover
Very entertaining comedy – something I rarely find.
8/10Blood: The Last Vampire
Should have stuck with the anime. Shows its low budget too much.
3/10
Public EnemiesDigital film does not suit a period film. Flat characters and uninteresting direction also does not help.
4/10MoonIt's best to see this film blind - without reading anything about it beforehand. It's not the film you'd expect. Excellent cerebral sci-fi. Rockwell should get an Oscar for the performance in this.
